The Fund, with an estimated sum for disbursement of some £9m, has as at February 2006, issued grants totaling £5m, through a series of phased payments summarized as follows:

 

Phase 1

 

Deceased

Immediate flat-rate payment of £5k to the next-of-kin/partner

Detained in hospital overnight – immediate flat-rate payment of £3k

 

Phase 1A

 

Deceased

Flat-rate payment of £5k to the next-of-kin/partner

Detained in hospital for one week or more - flat-rate payment of £3k

 

Phase 2

 

Deceased – Flat-rate payment of £10k to the next-of-kin/partner

Dependent children of deceased - £2.5K to each child in full-time education

 

Severely injured - £15k

(If gravely injured, this increases to £20k)

Unfit for work for 4 weeks or more - £3k

 

Phase 2A

 

Gravely and permanently injured – Higher band £29k

                                                 Lower band    £9k

 

Detained in hospital overnight – flat-rate payment of £3k
