Following the bombings in Egypt earlier this year, Bali only a few weeks ago, and
in our own capital in July, the threat of terrorism is now unfortunately part of
our lives -
Travel insurance providers have been criticised because of the lack of clarity on what they will and won’t cover in regard to travellers caught up in terrorist acts.
However, travel insurance specialist InsureandGo today announces that it is altering its cover and removing the terrorism exclusion from the sections of its policies where it currently applies.
Perry Wilson from InsureandGo, said: “Up until today for policyholders caught up in terrorist acts we have covered their medical expenses and provided emergency assistance. But we have excluded cover in other areas such as for personal possessions, travel delay or cancellation.
“Previously we have looked at these claims on a case by case basis. But now we are altering our policies to provide further protection to policyholders directly affected by an act of terrorism when they are travelling too, or holidaying in, countries deemed safe by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).”
The changes make InsureandGo a pioneer in the travel insurance industry.
Perry said: “As a specialist we are constantly analysing the market to ensure that our policies are really meeting the needs of travellers today. We also have a duty to ensure we are continually adding value to our policyholders. We are pleased to be at the forefront of making sure our customers are clear about what they are and aren’t covered for.”
Earlier this year, in another step to ensure its policy wordings are clear and jargon free, InsureandGo put its booklets to the test with the Plain English campaign and received its Crystal Mark approval.
