Matthew Fulham Born 24 July 1987 Died 23 July 2005.
Matthew was a son and brother who was just starting his future, killed on the eve of his 18th birthday. His young life taken whilst doing no harm to anyone. Matthew was on holiday with his family in Egypt when a terrorist suicide bomber drove a truck loaded with explosives into the hotel foyer Matthew and his family were staying at. Matthew sitting with new friends he had made, heard the crash,
the youngsters then ran to see what had happened from the back of the hotel towards the foyer. When those children got within 30 feet of the foyer the terrorist set the explosives he was carrying off. Killing 11 people in the hotel. The hotel reception was destroyed as was the dining room and hotel shops.
Matthew loved music and played his Trombone in various bands and orchestra’s. It seemed fitting that we should form a charity in his name to both remember him and also bring something positive from his death. This web site represents that charity. The initial aims of the charity was to assist those affected by terrorism overseas. Thanks to the hard work of of many people (in particular Trevor ) the Government have now set up a fund similar to the criminal injuries compensation scheme for anyone from Britain who is injured whilst overseas due to terrorism.
The charity has since focused on helping the young musicians in the borough of Hinckley and Bosworth and has been providing a £1000 bursary for a young person each year as well as partnering the Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council to put on Proms in the park. It is fitting that we supported Proms in the park as Matthew played his last public performance there with the John Cleveland College orchestra just 3 weeks before that fateful holiday.
